Letters to the Editor From: Abram What a great site...I was just sitting around sick and tired of Democrats lying and getting away with it, so I just typed what I felt at that moment and I came across a very nice site! Thank you! That was the entire idea. I created the site after some of the same frustration that you must have been feeling. Having said that, I want to say that the Republican or conservative party needs to adapt and evolve in order to survive. Yes, you are correct but remember that the entire history of the Republican party has been one of adapting and evolving in order to survive and remain relevant. The Republican party was originally created to free the slaves. We succeed and moved on to keeping the union together. We succeed and moved on. The Democrats have also evolved, or devolved, depending upon your view. The strange thing is that the Democrats seem to be moving more and more to the left. I don't believe that the Democrats of even 25 years ago would recognize or approve of what has happened to their party. I know that Presidents Johnson and Kennedy would have been horrified. In my very humble yet correct opinion, the following must happen so that Republicans do not become extinct: 1) With all due respect to President Bush, dump the phrase, "Compassionate Conservatism". For one, it gives the idea that conservatism generally Is not compassionate-which is totally false. Conservatism is very compassionate to liberty and people becoming self-sufficient in order to survive. Also, being compassionate does not mean we allow Democrats to freely smear and attempt by all means to gain control. We have to stand for what's right not with compassion but with logic, persuasion and determination. We must expose them for everything wrong they do (including Clinton, Sandy Berger, etc...). We expect the same from them! The religious right has once again taken control of the Republican Party. I think their hold is weak and if the moderate Republicans take control then the party will beat the Democrats without breaking a sweat and our nation will once again provide prosperity for all. As it is, there is little difference between Democrats who want to made decisions for you for their idealized version of communism or the Republicans who want to make decisions for you for their religious beliefs. The hope for both the Republican Party and the Democrat Party is the Libertarian Party. They are slowly growing and both parties will eventually have to react to them instead of to each other. The Libertarians are very compatible with the moderate Republican view. 2) Something MUST be done about the liberal media. If conservatism is to survive, we must do something about bias in the media. whether it be regulation or exposure, something must be done. For some reason, when we mention regulation on the press, conservatives get excited as if the constitution is at stake. For God's sake we regulate the second amendment, why not the first!!?? Same way that gun-owners are required to get a license and background check to purchase guns, news reporters and producers should be made to obtain a license and their political affiliations should be exposed. The media has allowed far too many Democrats to get away with lies, yet they spend years digging up dirt on Republicans. Something is being done. Demand the FOX New Channel. It is cable only but it actually makes the cost of cable worth the price. Fox News is the only channel that is fair. They are not bias toward the Republicans but the Democrats hate them with fire and acid. Best of all, they are now the number one news channel in American and are expanding internationally. This is now the only tv news I watch. Their motto is "fair and balanced". I sometimes joke about starting a Republican TV channel. (I wish I had the money to do it!) R-TV's motto would be "Not Fair! Not Balanced! Just Right!" GRIN 3) Internal cleansing and self-analysis needs to occur. The Republican Party is as strong as the weakest Republican Strategist or Advisor. We have too many "Republican" Strategists and advisors whether to President Bush or elsewhere that are not solid conservatives and tend to water down policy, create conflicts and eventually hamper successes of the party (hi Colin Powell, Clark, O'Neil, etc...). Actually, your next paragraph holds the keys to success for the party. 4) We need to be more passionate. The last passionate Republican president was Ronald Reagan; otherwise, everyone else doesn't look like he wants to win or even cares about winning. Democrats look to politics as their religion; Republicans look to it as an armature sport where we only play for FUN. This is serious. The country is at stake and every Republican is counting on you. Having said that, what happened with Bush in the debate!??? That should have been a home run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sure Kerry knows how to debate, but he has soooooo many defects that Bush could have scored big time!. There's nothing wrong with practicing for a political debate for God's sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES, YES, YES, YES, YES! We don't look like we have passion. We are too reserved and polite. If I was debating Kerry I would have said some things that would have his face red. The Democrats are rude, loud and passionate. We need the same to win!!!!! By the way, you might remember when President Reagan was in office the Democrats kept calling him stupid. Now President George W Bush. They call all Republicans stupid but why do we never call them stupid? We need more passion! There is one very good hope to get passion into the Republican Party! Look at what is happening on Collage Campuses! The Republican students have more passion than the Democrats! They really believe, they really care and they show it with great passion! This is the future for the party, I just don't want to wait that long. The Editor
