Letters to the Editor

Subject: bloodguilt

Dear Editor,

Finally the question was asked that I was praying for during Friday night's Presidential debate.

"Senator Kerry, suppose you are speaking with a voter who believed abortion is murder and the voter asked for reassurance that his or her tax dollars would not go to support abortion, what would you say to that person?"

Kerry replied, "First of all, I cannot tell you how deeply I respect the belief about life and when it begins. I'm a Catholic, raised a Catholic. I was an altar boy. Religion has been a huge part of my life. It helped lead me through a war, it leads me today."

I had flashbacks of my experiences in Granite City, IL  just a few months ago when I first joined the local pro-life efforts. I had gone to the City Clerk to find out about the legalities of picketing. The City Clerk tried to discourage me from becoming involved and then told me her own position on abortion by stating, "I'm Catholic." I was then directed to the police department for answers to my questions. I asked the questions again, and again I heard, "I'm Catholic." I hadn't asked anyone about their faith practice, and found it very strange that they would feel compelled to tell me.

Then a friend gave me a book entitled, "Their Blood Cries Out." I was able to understand why these two city employees felt the need to profess their religion to me. They were experiencing something called "blood guilt." When a person knows full well that abortion is wrong, knows that killing unborn children is truly murder, understands that God despises the shedding of innocent blood, and claims to follow the Gospel of Jesus Christ, but then turns his eyes away and does nothing, this person is experiencing "blood guilt."

I realized that 'blood guilt' is covering our entire city, as so few are willing to become involved in ending the thousands of abortions that happen here each year. As for the babies who are being brought from several surrounding states to die here in Granite City, well, their blood cries out.

When Senator Kerry made the identical statement, "I'm Catholic" on national TV, I realized that our whole nation would be covered with "blood guilt" if he is elected President of the United States.

Respectfully,
Julie

Julie, this is a satire and joke site.  Your letter is too heavy for me to make fun of, so I am publishing it as is.  I do want you to consider that the abortion issue is not just two sides.  There is more than "pro-life" and "pro-choice".  Somewhere in there are the people who believe that these decisions are between themselves and their maker and are too important to be a matter of public policy. That category includes people who are pro-life and pro-choice. There is no name for this category but I personally believe it is the largest group of the people who have an opinion.  Maybe you can call this Pro-None-Of-Your-Business.  There are also the people who remember what it was like in this country prior to legal abortions.  A lot of women died from back alley abortions.  There are also people who have no opinion.  I am sure that is the single largest group of people.  Some of these people grew up in cultures where abortion is not an issue.  Either they have too many people or not enough or people just don't live long enough to worry about it.  You should also consider the slippery slope theory.  Abortion is an extreme example but I will point out to you that in the year 2007 vitamins are going to be made illegal in the USA.  Some people look at these two items and connect the dots.  The dots lead to a Stalinist state.  The people who told you they are Catholic are yet another position.  The Pope specifically stated that abortion is a sin and it is everyones responsibility to take action to try and prevent it.  Those people were following their strongly held believes.  The point of this paragraph is that you should make up your own mind but you should understand why others feel differently.

Before you consider our country dripping in blood consider what I said.  Then think about some of the countries who routinely kill all female babies. Think about countries where the leaders steal everything and don't even leave money for food.  Consider countries where criminals rule and cut off body parts for entertainment. None of this happens here.  This is a great country and the abortion issue is not going to change that fact.  I personally think that Senator John Kerry would make the worst President ever elected, however if he is elected, do not confuse the personal morals and believes of the President with the personal morals and believes of the people of this great country.   We have managed to survive every President, Senator, Congressman, Governor and all of the other elected and appointed officials so far.  Senator Kerry at his worse can not destroy us.
